Power Plant Operator

The City of Wahoo Utilities Department is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined individual to join our team as a Power Plant Operator. This position plays a critical role in maintaining reliable electric service throughout our power district and offers opportunities for training, certifications, and long-term career growth.

🔧 What You'll Do

As a Power Plant Operator, you'll assist with:

  • Operation and monitoring of the City's power generation equipment and systems 
  • Maintenance and overhaul of diesel engines, fleet equipment, and plant machinery 
  • Substation switching operations as directed by dispatchers 
  • Equipment inspections, operational readings, and recordkeeping 
  • Operation of trucks, forklifts, loaders, backhoes, and other utility equipment 
  • Emergency response and rotating on-call duties as needed
  • Maintaining a safe and efficient work environment while serving the community 

✅ What We're Looking For

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license 
  • Ability to report to the work site within 15 minutes under normal weather conditions 
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule, including weekend on-call assignments

Certifications (or Ability to Obtain)

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required
  • Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) Substation Switchman Certification
  • Certified Chemical/Pesticide Applicator License
