This role offers variety, meaningful work, and the chance to make a visible impact across our city streets and cemetery. If you enjoy hands-on work, operating equipment, and helping maintain vital community spaces — this could be the perfect fit for you.
π± What You’ll Do
This is a dynamic position that changes with the seasons and the needs of the city. You'll help maintain two important areas: City Streets and the City Cemetery.
Street Maintenance Responsibilities
- Assist with the repair and upkeep of city streets
- Perform concrete work, paint curbs, crosswalks, and street markings
- Install and repair street signs and related hardware
- Set up barricades and help direct traffic when needed
- Perform snow removal on sidewalks, parking lots, and around public buildings
- Sweep and clean streets and city-owned property
Cemetery Maintenance Responsibilities
- Mow, trim, water, and care for cemetery grounds
- Replace sod and trim trees, bushes, and shrubs
- Clear debris from cemetery roads and intersections
- Assist with grave-related tasks including:
- Digging and preparing foundations
- Pouring monument bases
- Placing monuments
- Locating lot markers
Equipment & Safety
- Operate light equipment, vehicles, and hand/power tools
- Perform basic preventative maintenance on tools and machinery
- Maintain a safe work environment at all times
Public Interaction
- Provide courteous and respectful service to residents, including those who may be grieving
- Refer citizen concerns to your supervisor
- Maintain positive relationships with city staff, officials, and the public

We’re looking for someone with the ability to learn, work efficiently, and contribute to a team that takes pride in keeping Wahoo running smoothly.
You should be able to:
- Learn cemetery and street maintenance methods and practices
- Operate vehicles, machinery, and tools used in daily tasks
- Work safely around mechanical and automotive equipment
- Follow verbal and written instructions
- Communicate clearly in English
- Work respectfully with the public and city staff
- Stay productive even with frequent interruptions
πͺ Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This job is active and hands-on. You should be comfortable with:
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), crouching, walking, and standing for extended periods
- Operating tools and equipment
- Occasional exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, vibration, and moving machinery
- Daytime, evening, or onβcall work as needed
You’ll also spend some time indoors for office-related tasks.
π Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- A willingness to learn and contribute to a hardworking, community-focused team
